Devastated by the AIDS epidemic, Kisumu is Kenya’s third largest city and is located on the eastern shore of Lake Victoria. The Ring Road Ophan School was begun be the Ring Road Church of Christ. The school is located in one of the poorest slums in Kenya. They provide a Christian education for nursery through standard nine. Most of the students have been orphaned as a result of the AIDS epidemic.
Partnering with the Christian Relief Fund the school provides a nutrious breakfast and lunch for over 400 children per day. They are also beginning to provide an evening meal also.
They are in the process of opening a VCT (Voluntary Counseling and Training Center) on the school’s campus. The center will provide AIDS testing, assist in distribution of ARV’s and provide AIDS prevention education.
